Cold Moon December 26, 2023
It’s our first Full Moon after the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice Moon takes the highest path along the sky and is above the horizon longer than any Moon, making it the longest night of the year. December’s Full Moon is named the Cold Moon representing the drop in our temperatures. This Moon is also known as the Long Night Moon (Mohican), as it rises during the “longest” nights of the year, around the solstice.
Full Moons illuminate things that may or may not be working for us. I think of this time as a release or the letting go phase during our lunar journey. As a Full Moon is capable of raising the tides it can also raise our emotions and intuitive abilities. This makes it the perfect time to celebrate with a Full Moon Ritual. As the surface of the moon wanes, so can our energy around anything you wish to release. Create some time to get grounded and reflect on anything that no longer serves you. This can be people, places, things, limiting beliefs, habits, etc.
This Full Moon is in Cancer, the cardinal water sign that is ruled by the Moon! Cancer represents home & family. She encourages us to remember where we come from and where we belong. The theme of home isn’t always a physical place but rather an emotional and spiritual connection with ourselves that finds a positive home vibration for our soul. Cancer’s energy, like the moon, is divinely feminine. She teaches us to get in touch with our feelings. For some this can feel a bit like an emotional roller coaster. Much like the crab, don’t forget to keep protective boundaries in place at this time. If you are a homebody like myself, spending quality time with family (or chosen family) can be ideal. Check in with your loved ones. Nourish yourself and those around you. In these winter months ahead remember it’s ok to not be super social. Do what feels right to slow down, rest, acknowledge and honor your emotional needs.
With every Full Moon we have the polarity of the Sun. The Sun is currently in Capricorn Season. Ruled by the 10th House bringing spirit into our professional lives. For careers that could mean a new job opportunity or change in direction. During this time, try to find balance between our Moon and Sun signs.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday Season & I wish you a prosperous New Year!
