Floatation Therapy aka Sensory Deprivation
Floatation Therapy aka Sensory Deprivation
Have you ever been to a float spa before? When I first found out one was opening near me I could not wait to try it! Before I get into my experience let me explain what floating is in case you haven't heard of it before.
Floatation Therapy aka Sensory Deprivation is a zero-gravity pod that allows you to float while relaxing the body & mind. If you don't know how to back float that's not a problem! There is 1,000 pounds of Epsom Salt used in each tank to make the buoyancy of the water feel like you are floating on air.
Why float?
Salt! Ever partake in a salt bath ritual? Salt baths are a great form of cleansing. The benefits are endless! Because the amount of Epsom Salt used eliminates the force of gravity on your nervous and musculoskeletal system you will effortlessly relieve pain, tension, stress, & improve your sleep. Epsom Salt acts as an exfoliate for your skin. Salt also aids in joint pain by preventing inflammation and naturally relaxes the body.
Weightless. The 1,000 pounds of salt enables you to float effortlessly. This anti-gravity environment creates a deep relaxing experience, it's even safe to fall asleep.
Meditation. This is my favorite part! An hour of zero distractions in zero gravity decreases the production of stress hormones called cortisol. While you float your brain enters the theta brain-wave state which is associated with deep sleep and dreaming. This will leave you feeling refreshed and serene.
My first spa float experience
I contacted True REST to book my appointment. When you sign up for your first float they give you a tour and have you watch an informative video of all the things mentioned above & different positions to be in while you float. You can choose music to listen to from their playlist or play your own. There are even multi-colored lights in the pod you can choose from if you don't like the dark.
I was so excited for my first float session. I had such high hopes to have this amazing meditation session. Sadly, that did not happen. I had such a hard time with how to position my body I didn't get truly relaxed until my time was almost up. After talking with a team member it's very common for your first float not to live up to your expectations. Learning to really trust the water and let go can be a learning process. The good news is the benefits of this therapy are cumulative with each session. So "the more you float, the better it gets!" And let me just say it's so true! I went into my second session without any expectations. I was able to really trust the water and I actually fell asleep during my meditation. After my float I felt lighter and had an overwhelming feeling of inner peace. I slept like a baby that evening!
I feel like every float is its own experience. I was able to float a third time and it really awakened a ton of creativity. I had so many ideas flood my mind. It was truly inspiring!
I highly recommend float therapy, it's so easy yet powerful!
